Mountain Electronics Goes Solar

Mountain Electronics, a family-owned electronics repair company in North Carolina, has made big changes to increase their work output while decreasing their environmental impact. Since 1999, Mountain Electronics has been performing quality repairs on circuit boards for commercial washers and dryers.me-goes-solar Each year, the business has grown to meet the increasing number of boards sent in for repair and customers served. This year alone, Mountain Electronics has hired five new employees, each specializing in a different area of cleaning, repairing, and shipping  your boards back to you in a timely manner.

Located outside of a rural town in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, environmental stewardship has always been a tenet of the company. They employ many methods to reduce their environmental footprint: using biodegradable soap and non-toxic microbes rather than harsh chemicals to clean circuit boards; reusing boxes and packaging material whenever possible; printing on 100% recycled paper; packing repaired boards in biodegradable & recycled Geami paper and cornstarch peanuts; recycling control boards that are not repairable; and using LED and compact fluorescent lighting to minimize energy consumption.

Additionally, Mountain Electronics is proud to announce that they have installed a photovoltaic solar array, which provides nearly all of their electricity needs. This 15.7 kW solar installation is made up of 48 highly rated SunPower solar panels. These panels have won awards for being the most efficient, most durable, and having the least annual degradation, and so will provide more clean electricity for longer than the average solar panel. As their business continues to grow, Mountain Electronics looks forward to providing more high quality service at low to cost to both their customers and the environment.

Mountain Electronics Owners Honored as 2013 Entrepreneur of the Year

The Economic Development Commission (EDC) of Yancey County, North Carolina recently presented Whitney and George Brasington with the “2013 Entrepreneur of the Year” award.  The Brasingtons own and operate Mountain Electronics, a small but thriving electronics repair business in North Carolina that specializes in repairing circuit boards for the coin-laundry industry.

The Brasingtons bought the business from a friend of theirs, Jason Berry, in 2005, after both working for Mountain Electronics for several years.  Since they bought the business, Mountain Electronics has grown from 2 to 12 employees, and they are still expanding their team of skilled technicians and customer service representatives.  They have also just moved to a larger facility in the heart of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains.

After receiving the award, Whitney Brasington said, “We attribute the success of our business to the support that we have received from the local community over the years.”  They mentioned that the local community college, Mayland Community College, has been a great resource for their business.  Whitney has taken advantage of many classes offered through Mayland’s Small Business Program to help her understand the intricacies of running a successful small business; things like getting incorporated, understanding payroll, and taxes.  The Brasingtons have also found Mayland’s Electronics Program to be an invaluable source for finding and hiring well-trained technicians.  As George said, “These technicians, along with our skilled office employees, have helped build Mountain Electronics into one of the country’s top commercial laundry repair centers – a niche we never even knew existed 10 years ago!”

Congratulations to the Brasingtons and Mountain Electronics crew!  Their hard work and dedication to quality service has paid off, and they have been an exceptional model of business growth in a time and place where too many jobs have been lost in recent years.

Mountain Electronics’ 2012 Workforce Expands by Millions!

Mountain Electronics prides itself on its eco-friendliness.   For years, we have used sustainable practices, such as packing customers’ computer boards with re-usable and biodegradable paper and plant-based materials, and re-using shipping boxes, padding, and void fill.  Now we are able to thoroughly clean your circuit boards using the latest non-toxic SmartWasher® technology – using millions of microbes which eat the oils and contaminants that gunk up circuits and components.

Often, circuit boards will arrive with dust, lint, grease, and layers of unidentifiable substances that are difficult to remove from the hundreds of components and connections that may need to be repaired or replaced.  We found that merely blasting the boards with compressed air wasn’t enough. We needed deeper, more thorough cleaning, but did not want to expose our employees or our environment to the popular but toxic standard cleaning chemicals.  Now we deep clean your control boards with the SmartWasher® non-toxic cleaning solution which allows us to repair computer boards more efficiently and stop corrosion from continually damaging the circuitry – without nasty chemicals!   Our commitment to excellent service doesn’t stop with the UPS truck carrying your boards back to you; we try to minimize our “downstream” impact.  Considered at every stage in the repair process are your health,
our employees’ health, and the health of the environment that sustains us all.
